SheSource is a resource portal for women entrepreneurs, with the pilot project focussing on York Region and Simcoe County, ON.
The website is the culmination of a project funded by Status of Women Canada, which sought to strengthen supports for women business owners and professionals in communities across Canada.
After conducting a needs and gap analysis of women business owners in York Region and Simcoe County, we validated our assumption that there was a need for a woman-specific business resource portal. The concept of "SheSource" is a mash-up of concepts that transforms the concept of a traditional business resource website.
Why a site specifically for women? A critical discovery during our investigation phase was that women and men look for different types of information, in different venues, when starting and growing a company. SheSource is designed to match well with the way women business owners prefer to seek out new information, build connections and learn.
SheSource is driven by the goal of making it easier for women to find resources while also adding important social components designed for sharing and collaboration.
At launch the site has already identified over 100 organizations and a myriad of programs, resources and events that support women in York Region and Simcoe County. The site is designed to evolve as users shape the content, contributing, categorizing and sharing in ways that will help other business owners in their local community.
